Thompson, 50, was shot on the street outside the New York Hilton Midtown in Manhattan a little before 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Surveillance video appears to show a masked gunman waiting for Thompson, who is seen walking alone outside the hotel, and calmly firing a handgun before fleeing the scene on a bike.
New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch called the CEO’s murder a"brazen, targeted attack."
Though police have obtained evidence of the shooter’s movements before and after the murder, no one has yet been arrested. Here is a look at what is known about the suspect’s activities:
A Bus to N.Y.C. that Originated in Atlanta
According to reports fromABC,CNNandThe New York Timesthe shooter arrived in New York City on a bus that originated in Atlanta on Nov. 24, 10 days before the murder.
Upper West Side Hostel
Days after arriving in the city, the suspect checked into a hostel on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, theTimesreported. ABC reported that he checked in on Nov. 30.
TheTimesreported that the hostel is located on West 103rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue, about 50 blocks northwest of the hotel, which is located on Sixth Avenue, between 53rd and 54th streets.
The suspect checked into the hostel using a fake New Jersey driver’s license and cash, CNN reported, and stayed in a room with two other males.
Moments Before The Shooting
Security cameras captured the suspect appearing to exit the 57th Street F subway station at 6:15 a.m. on Dec. 4, about 30 minutes before the shooting, according to CNN.
The Shooting And Escape
At 6:45 a.m., the suspect, who was lying in wait outside the hotel, fired the shots that killed Thompson and fled on a bike through an alleyway.
Three minutes later he was seen riding north into Central Park, according to police.
Police have said the suspect was wearing a “very distinctive grey backpack” that can be seen in the video of the shooting.
CNN reported that police have since reviewed security footage showing the shooter exiting Central Park at West 77th Street. He was no longer wearing the backpack.
As a result, CNN reported, authorities have searched the park extensively for the bag, which has not been found.
