This summer NASA’sPerseverancehas been meddling studying the Jezero Crater ancient river delta on Mars and it looks like it has pip jackpot . A preliminary analysis of one of the rock sample lift out up by the bird of passage has the squad amazed : the rock has the mellow abundance of organic particle come up on Mars yet .
constituent molecules are compounds made primarily of C , unremarkably with atomic number 1 and oxygen as well as other elements . They are the molecule that make up us as well as all the other life sentence forms on our planet . But they are not undivided to life . There are processes that can form them that are not biologic .
These organic corpuscle became trapped in these rocks long ago . Marsis now a ironical and frigid major planet but billions of years ago ( and mayhap even more recently)water flow . A river poured piss into what we now call the Jezero crater , carving a delta of mud and silt . The rocks that Perseverance is now explore are the dry out sediments that were once clay . On July 20 , Perseverance scanned a rock nicknamed “ Wildcat Ridge ” where it found a wealth of constitutional molecules .

“ In the distant past , the sand , clay , and salts that now make up the Wildcat Ridge sample were deposited under conditions where biography could potentially have thrived , ” Perseverance project scientist Ken Farley of Caltech suppose in astatement .
“ The fact the constitutive issue was find in such a sedimentary tilt – known for preserving fossils of ancient life here on Earth – is important . However , as up to as our instruments aboard Perseverance are , further conclusions regarding what is contained in the Wildcat Ridge sample distribution will have to wait until it ’s come back to Earth for in - depth bailiwick as part of the agency ’s Mars Sample Return campaign . ”
Thesample return missionis await to admit multiple eggbeater to help oneself move the treasured loading and we can expect it sometime in the early 2030s .
