After speaking honestly about their relationship on their Youtube series, the pair opened up toUs Weeklyin 2021 about the struggles they faced at the beginning of their relationship and how they overcame them.

“I think that was one of the reasons why we stayed together in the beginning. There were so many reasons why we thought we should not be together,” Fletcher said. “I think, subconsciously for me, and for him, there was this pressure, not only from people that watch the show but, like, our family and our friends.”

“Obviously, we’re far past that, but I think in the beginning, there is that sense of pressure,” she added, while Rodgers said that those feelings aren’t there “anymore.”

Just before their first wedding anniversary, Fletcher and Rodgersspoke to PEOPLE about the non-traditional way they met.

“It’s just wild,” Fletcher said. “We always look back and think, we cannot believe we met the way we did. I can’t believe we’ve been together seven years. I can’t believe we’re sitting here.”

“We were taking a walk in the neighborhood, and we’re like, ‘How weird is it that we met on a dating show?’ " Rodgers added.

As for plans to celebrate their one-year wedding anniversary? Fletcher said she wasn’t sure yet, but was positive it would be “very special.”

“It’s definitely a wonderful accomplishment, and we’re super excited to celebrate our first year being married,” Fletcher said. “Don’t know how yet, but we’re excited to do it!”

During an interview with PEOPLE, Fletcher shared why she and Rodgers have had a blissful first year of marriage.

“[We] don’t shy away from [putting] in the work,” she explained. “You’realways going to have to compromise. It’s always going to be discovering and learning and compromising with your partner.”

Rodgers chimed in: “Every couple has arguments and tiffs. The ratio of how much time we spend together for the amount of arguments we have is really good.”

Rodgers explained that sometimes they would “be sitting in the green room like right after filming” and end up discussing the show’s contestants’ problems.

“We would sometimes go talk about what had just happened and, you know, Jordan would have one perspective on it, I would have another perspective on it and we would start to talk to Dr. Jada because she was in the green room with us,” Fletcher added.

While discussing another couple’s issue though, they sometimes realized that they were unpacking their own hiccups. “It was actually about our relationship,” Rodgers said.
