We ’ve known for a while thatGreen Knight starDev Patelwas making a substitution for his next movie , taking on the dual role of virtuoso and managing director for Monkey Man , a John Wick - esque mythological activeness thriller set in Mumbai . But now , thanks to a little helpfrom Jordan Peele , we ’ve just got our first look , and wow .
Monkey Man come Patel as Kid , a young man make up a stingy living by day doing small job in Mumbai , and have part in clandestine fighting rings by dark as a monkey - disguise pugilist barrack by the legends of the god and incarnation of Shiva , Hanuman . But when his female parent is murdered , Kid run low on a quest for revenge to fight back against the powerful , tainted criminals that deprive the pitiable and weak and check the metropolis from the shadow .
Although the opening of the trailer plays up the supernatural ties between Kid and Hanuman , just how much of an otherworldly bend Monkey Man really has remains to be seen — and if itsJohn Wick - ian influencehas it more lean into the barbaric world of underground crime and assassins rather than any variety of divinely - connected power . But that does n’t arrest the primary thrust of the house trailer being that this just look incredibly cool . Patel clearly has an eye for action , and a tight left hook shot or six in him .

Monkey Man was in the first place report to be heading to Netflix after a business deal made in 2021 , butThe Hollywood Reporternotes that Peele , having had a chance to see the movie too soon , was so impressed that he push to see it get a theatrical release at Universal , through its deal with Peele ’s own Monkeypaw banner . Whatever the fateful simian connection , it surely has us frantic to see what Patel is cook up when Monkey Man hit field of operations April 5 .
