When author Eric Pearsonsat down to watchThunderbolts , something shock him . Which was unexpected , considering Pearson is not justcredited with creating the film ’s storybut co - writing its screenplay with Joanna Calo . And yet , as the film unfolded , Pearson was surprised to see a character he had written a full and complete arc for , no longer make it to the end of the film .
Pearson , who wroteBlack Widowand help writeFantastic Four : First StepsandThor : Ragnarok , was surprised to see that Taskmaster , theBlack Widowvillain played by Olga Kurylenko , died in the moving picture ’s first act . “ When I sat down to watch the first cut , one matter was totally unlike and shocked the blaze out of me , and it was that , ” Pearsontold Polygon . “ Everything else , I was like , ‘ Yeah , that ’s the movie that I wrote ! ’ But that decision … it was decided after my work . ”
In Pearson ’s version of the film , Taskmaster not only survive to the end , but she also play an integral role in the team . For example , her inclusion gave Ava ( Hannah John - Kamen ) , who was similarly given powers in a lab , someone to relate to . “ Ava , having won her autonomy in the beginning in the chronology than Taskmaster , was kind of vauntingly - sistering her a little bit , in a direction of ‘ how to conk out free and be your own person , ’ ” Pearson says .

In add-on , because Taskmaster had memory issues , there was a running play muzzle where she would forget everything that the chemical group had been through and would keep hear to dispatch her project of killing John Walker ( Wyatt Russell ) . “ On the clowning side , she was struggling with her own retention - loss hooey , and there was a gag where she just maintain resume the fight and forgetting that they had made up and become protagonist , ” Pearson said . “ They would be discussing the program of how to get out [ of the burial vault ] , and she ’d just go after him again , and they ’d all have to pig - pile on each other , and pull her off , and be like , ‘ No , we have it off each other ! Pearson is n’t sure on the nose why the quality was abbreviate , but he thinks her death certainly raised the stakes and that the memory patch line may have prevail up against a large throughline that was similar . “ [ The memory board storyline ] could conduce as another cause why they opt to bring her out of the movie , ” he said . “ Bob was obviously have retention issue as a with child part of his eccentric . ” And , of path , you could n’t skip Bob .
