The next time we see the TARDIS , the impossibly capacious time car in the BBC ’s Doctor Who , it ’ll once again be crammed to the rafter . But this time , the crowd vista will be all actors who have played the Doctor , the show ’s enigmatic alien time traveler . The Telegraph and various other news reference are report that all of the surviving Doctors will return for a particular miniskirt - instalment for the Children In Need charity Nox , along the lines of last year ’s “ Time Crash ” featuring eighties Doctor Peter Davison . And meanwhile , news sources are reporting that virtuoso David Tennant will quell until 2011 , and an even more telling invitee star could be joining the serial publication soon . Who could be more impressive than Tom Baker ? Try Prince Charles . According to Reuters , a spokesperson says it ’s possible that the Prince could put in an appearance on Doctor Who next year . Outgoing showrunner Russell T. Davies had call for for the Prince to appear , but he originally turn down the fling , actuate RTD to call HRH “ a miserable swine . ” But now a Palace official says the Prince never even check the request , which was eliminate by an underling along with thousands of others . And if the BBC resubmit the request , the Prince ’s faculty would n’t rule out his saying yes . ( But it ’s probably a honorable idea to leave out the “ miserable swine ” stuff on the invite . ) Meanwhile , I have a few thoughts about the rumored multi - Doctor special : 1 ) First , it ’s weird to think that Davison will be the only Doctor at this assembly who appeared in the last several - Doctors story , 1983 ’s “ The Five Doctors . ” Davison ’s predecessor , the frenzied Tom Baker , bound off “ Five Doctors ” and was only represented by some footage from an unaired installment . The other Doctors from that story are lamentably no longer with us . really , I ’ve just realized this is n’t true : the surviving Doctors all came back for another Children In Need peculiar , the horrendous 1993 story “ Dimensions In Time . ”

2 ) Hopefully this stand for the return of quondam Doctors to the show will be confined to one - off charity night event like this one . “ Time Crash ” was cute and charming , but the show in general has begin a bit too self - referential . From listen to novel showrunner Steven Moffat at Comic - Con , I ’m mildly affirmative that he agrees with me . He told the crowd at the Who gore that he wants to make tomorrow ’s fan favorite characters instead of bringing back old unity , and he thinks the payoff of a preceding Doctor ca n’t really justify more than a few minutes of story in any case . ( He did leave in an escape valve article , saying it was always potential he would believe of a nerveless estimate . 3 ) It still makes me sad that the preceding Doctor could n’t have become back together decent in 1993 , when the BBC come closely to make a special one - off story called “ The Dark Dimension . ” The story go halfway interesting : it ’s an alternate macrocosm where Tom Baker ’s Doctor failed to regenerate after his final story , “ Logopolis , ” which explains why he ’s now so old - looking . And because of this , all the doctor who came after him are in risk of being erased or something . Supposedly the story was killed by internecine warfare , plus the other Doctor were bother that Tom Baker got such a key role . So we begin “ Dimensions In Time ” instead . ( And yes , I make love point 3 contradicts point 2 . Now that the show ’s actually back on the air and successful , I ’d rather not see it flex into a nostalgia - fest . But the 1993 reunion particular , if it had occur , could have been peachy , especially with the past Doctors closer to their primes . ) [ TelegraphviaWiredandReuters ]
