Did SGU’s Women Get Lost In The Wrong Universe?

The man of Stargate Universe have been busy punching , exploring and save lives using complicated math . Meanwhile the womenfolk have blazon out , drunk , stick au naturel , and been used up sexually . Is SGU getting a slight sexist ? sports fan for certain reckon so .

The affair that continues to astound me is that this is the same web which has seen its best military rating ever for Warehouse [ 13 ] , a show which appeal to a broader set of demos , particularly bringing in new female viewership to the connection & yet ca n’t get its head around the fact that those same female viewers are also the most potentially potential to be go against by SGU .

They seemed amazed that women watch out BSG and sleep together the distaff demo ’s for Warehouse 13 and yet for SGU we have – boob shot and shower shots and so far every charwoman seems to be defined in some way by a male , either through sex in a closet , or needing some guy cable for quilt or apparently a prior affair . Oh except for Ming Na , our sapphic graphic symbol who we ’ve only briefly see acting like a cunt before she left again . There should have been or should be a stiff female part in every individual episode and virtually all scenes but we get Eli and Rush and Young and Scott and of class dear , helpless Chloe . Honestly , in a weird way SGU seems very ‘ dated ’ in it ’s viewpoints and set ups for the female character ; I almost sense like I ’m watching scifi from the 70 ’s .

The message panel is flooded with negatively charged notion about the much mute female cast aboard the Destiny . Ming - Na ’s much - hyped openly lesbian character has all but said three words along with equally quiet T.J. , while the pathetic Senator ’s girl wanders about the ship never far from the felon of a protective man ’s arm , even though she so does n’t ask it .

To be fair I agree and discord . And I too am a chip dismayed but the accomplished lack of filmdom time for the female characters . Especially since I palpate like a few of them may be interesting , but I just do n’t have the slightest clew who they are . That being say , even the men themselves , while getting a portion more screen time are horribly stereotyped . There ’s the quiet stern one , the disturbed one , the swot , the hot adventurous ashen guy , and the angry opprobrious guy . Do we really want the adult female get more screen time , if they will only be subject to this character of stereotyping ?

But , the series still has hope . Even though I was loathed to see this weeks big moment for the one talking female fictional character , the Senator ’s girl , ended up with her in the cascade while the leer nerd PG - ly panted nearby . Right here this scene is both everything that is incorrect and is right with SGU .

For one , Eli was being forced to interact with multitude , not just blunder out unfunny zinger for no reason . It was in this moment where we got to see genuine human fundamental interaction that was n’t Rush cry or squeeze comedy . Eli ’s conundrum along with a few other gem give me great promise for the series , because when it slay it ’s fantastic . Too sorry it was sandwiched between two very annoying character — the Senator ’s daughter who snivel constantly and needs to be surround by man at all time , even while showering , and the “ other one ” soldier lady who was apparently put on screen for free “ I have large bosom ” camera angles [ anyone else catch that moment ? ] . In fact , I ’ve even draw a blank this fictitious character ’s name , I frankly know her as the soldier with large than median boobs , which makes me distressing indoors .

The series urgently need to read how to engage the mankind of Stargate and “ gritty scifi ” together . And perhaps give the fair sex more projection screen time could avail . After all , this is the enfranchisement that brought us Samantha Carter . preceding females on the show prove that the serial knows how to write a strong female character who can stand toe - to - toe with fellow soldier and talk . Look I ’m not asking for much , I do n’t need a heroine just a slightly strong speaking female will do .
