Season two of Continuum launch last night on Syfy , with a modest sorting of prospect - setting episode . A young condition quo is established for Kiera , Alec , and the lovable work party at Liber8 . We get a bit more exploitation of the mystery of why Kiera was sent back in time . And this show seems to want to be a superhero epic all of a sudden .

This episode picks up some metre after the first time of year last , and Kiera has ostensibly gone missing , with all the cops ( and Agent Gardiner ) enquire where she ’s have to . Meanwhile , she ’s using her courtship ’s invisibility king to strike at Liber8 and the Vancouver gangsters from behind the scenes , becoming a vigilance man rather than a pig . finally , she reconnects with Carlos and the mob , but still decides that she ’s well off turn in the shadow . Like Batman , whom she ’s apparently never heard of .
Of naturally , Kiera ’s conclusion to block following any semblance of police method acting gets off to a rocky beginning here , because she fingers the awry guy rope for the assassination of the mayor , and plays into Liber8 ’s plan to make Tahmoh Penikett ’s Jim Martin the new mayor .
And meanwhile , Alec has go out of the kinsfolk farm into an apartment with a grouping of young gamers , who blast their loud medicine , and he ’s trying to get a job working at the Buy - More with Chuck and the gang . ( fundamentally . ) In the meantime , Alec is blowing off both his wretched mom and Kiera , because he ’s trying to march the message from his next ego that he base hidden inside Kiera ’s suit ’s storage .
Kellogg is still receive an uneasy on - again , off - again affair with Kiera , even though she pretend to be disgusted with the ex - Liber8 member . And she ’s not above blackjack him for cash .
And in one of the installment ’s more promising developing , Travis survives being shot and left for stagnant by Liber8 ’s new drawing card , Sonya . And this lead to him winding up in the same prison house as Alec ’s full cousin Julian , who ’s designate to become Theseus , father of Liber8 in the future . find out the two of them bond in prison house could actually be kind of entertaining , if the guards do n’t take after through on their threat to break the two Liber8 conspirator .
But we ’re kept waiting until the very end of the episode before we find out what we ’ve been waiting to learn , and even then it ’s a bit vague . Why did Future Alec send Kiera and the Liber8 gang back in time ? Apparently it ’s because he feels like he ’s gone down a dark route and taken the world with him , what with leading one of the evil corporations that overshadow everything . And now he want to change the timeline , so the populace he live in never comes to pass .
So is Future Alec completely in conference with Liber8 ? We saw him meeting with Kagame before Kagame ’s evasion to 2012 . If their goals are completely in sync , did Alec plan all of Liber8 ’s actions in the past ? And if that ’s the case , then I ’m still disconnected about why Kagame had to sacrifice his living to stimulate a bombing that was already part of the past timeline that gave rise to Future Alec ’s corporate empire . First of all , that bombardment was already part of established case , so nobody needed to go back in fourth dimension and make it happen . And secondly of all , if your goal is to transfer account , then it ’s not clear why you ’d expend so much effort to ensure history plays out as it previously did .
In any instance , this show is playing with some nice ambiguity — Kiera confesses she ’s no longer entirely certain whether she wants to preserve the timeline she came from , even though she still desire to get back to her family . And Kellogg says it ’s entirely potential they ’ve already made enough changes to score out the timeline they came from .
In core , we ’re treading on the same sort of territory that made Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles such a compelling bit of television , such as all the moments where we recognise that Derek Reese and Jesse come from two unlike hereafter . Let ’s hope Continuum can sail those amnionic fluid with half the attainment and ingeniousness that T : SCC did .
