In a video career retrospective withVanity Fairwhile promotingThor : Love and Thunder , Chris Hemsworth reflect on one of his other roles , playing a small but pivotal part inJ.J. Abrams ’ Star Trek . In the opening of the 2009 film Hemsworth portrayed George Kirk , Father-God to James T. Kirk .
Of the hearing physical process , Hemsworth reminisced , “ I got call into J.J. Abrams ’ office … I knew it was for Star Trek but I did n’t know what quality or anything . And it was fundamentally free-base on an auditory modality I had for the lead function [ of James T. Kirk ] that Chris Pine had trifle . ” he order . “ I do n’t know how they sifted through it and thought , ‘ oh he looks a bit similar , let ’s get him in . ’ So [ Abrams ] number in and he handed me the script and I just read through the scene , and I did something right . ”
On accepting the role , Hemsworth recall the advantages of being an unknown actor long before hisMarvel Studiosdays . “ I remember not really understanding what I was a part of potentially , which was a good thing . If I had known it was extend to be the relaunching of Star Trek and become the film it became , I ’m indisputable I would have been a caboodle more intimidated … I had auditioned on a Friday and then was shooting on the Monday . So there was n’t a whole lot of time for me to march what it was . There ’s something that befall with young actor … there ’s just such an honesty and a pureness to how they perform before anyone gets involve … there ’s a exemption to that because I did n’t have a pot of time to imagine a backstory or prep . It was just sort of like ‘ you ’re in this post — how would you react ? ’ ”

In Hemsworth ’s full-grown Star Trek scene , we see George Kirk ’s last moments as he sacrifices himself to save many , including his wife and newborn boy . It ’s memorable for being such a moving and square insertion to Hemsworth ’s appeal as a grand drawing card — something that essay helpful for the actor , who go through month of not being capable to find a task between filming on Star Trek and its release . “ The photographic film came out and then it gave me some momentum . ” he said , “ And I had try out for Thor a few times — didn’t get a call back .
