Avatar’sNext Comic Gives Azula the Spotlight She Deserves

Anyone who watched and enjoy the originalAvatar : The Last Airbenderhas a fussy villain that ’s their favorite , and for many , that baddie is Zuko ’s sisterAzula . The princess of the Fire Nation was remains middling daunting even today , and is part of one of the show ’s sound moments .

It ’s been awhile since she ’s been feature in the comics , but by and by this twelvemonth , she ’ll be headline a graphic novel of her own . Azula in the Spirit Temple was revealed officiallylast yr , butScreenrantrecently revealed the Good Book ’s departure date on September 26 and 27 . Written by Faith Erin Hicks and drawn by Peter Wartman , it ’ll break up up where 2016 ’s Smoke & Shadow go away off , with her on the run after trying to groom Zuko into a respectable Fire Lord in her own , uncanny way . When a delegation with her followers does n’t go as design , Azula winds up in a timberland temple inhabited by a single Thelonious Monk .

“ What first seems like a place to safely remove the night is quickly revealed to be something horrifyingly dissimilar , ” read Dark Horse ’s verbal description . “ Azula is pressure to confront her past and will finally face up her chance at repurchase … but will she take it ? ”

The Azula comedian continues a trend of standalone focus on specific Last Airbender character . Joined by series author Tim Hedrick , Hicks and Wartman antecedently worked on graphic novels focus on Katara , Toph Beifong , and Suki in 2020 and 2021 . Those have all been passably good and capture the flavor of the show quite well , and it ’s doubtful that movement will end with Azula ’s . What ’ll be interesting to see , though , is if Azula will get the repurchase story that some fans have thought she deserved — after all , if her brother and uncle did , there ’s no rule aver she can’t — or if she ’ll just sweep up that she ’s evil as hell and keep menace her phratry .

Avatar : Azula in the Spirit Temple release on September 26 for bookstores and September 27 for comic shops .
