Rumors of a 20,000 league Under the Sea remaking have been around for years . David Fincher had been bond since 2010 but could never get his sight off the background . Now , another A - list theatre director has taken control of the Nautilus : Bryan Singer .
The director of four ten - Men movies announced via his Instagram that 20,000 league Under the Sea will be his next film . Rick Sordelet and Dan Studney ( Jack the Giant Slayer ) save the screenplay with a tale by them and Singer . It ’s , of path , base on the novel by Jules Verne .

It ’s my fiftieth birthday ( ouch ) , and I just put the finishing spot on the script for my next film . A story I ’ve wanted to fictionalize since childhood . I promise this will be an epic and worked up adventure for all ages ! An adventure very dear to my substance . Not abandoning the X - Men Universe . Very excited about ex - Men Apocalypse and beyond .
With Singer directing this essentially mean he ’ll polish off X - Men Apocalypse ( which is now in post - production and set for release May 27 , 2016 ) and then make this . And he ’ll likely stick to the X - Men films as a producer , maybe more .
One interesting note : Varietyreports this project is presently without a studio .
Singer has a great gumption of scope and risky venture so he seems like a good fit for 20,000 league Under the Sea . Now the question is – who is Captain Nemo ?
